Protruding Chin

What is Protruding Chin?

Protruding chin refers to Mandibular Prognathism, a particularly long and prominent lower jaw that is not in suitable proportion to the face. It is often the case that the lower teeth protrude forward farther than the upper teeth. Because it is a serious malocclusion, the patient has a poor masticatory ability, which will, in turn, cause digestive, gastrointestinal, and pronunciation disorders. If the protruding chin is simply a problem of the teeth structure, the problem can be solved by teeth correction. However, if the problem is caused by a skeletal problem, it should be treated fundamentally through two-jaw surgery.

What are the Merits of
Cinderella's Protruding Chin Surgery?

01 Precision Diagnosis, the Basics of Safe Surgery!

1

3D CT scan

Accurate data is collected through cutting-edge 3D techniques. Thoroughly checks the nasal bone, the thickness of skin and angle of nose and face, and the location of nerves that cannot be seen with the naked eye. Collects nasal bone data and completes a beautiful face with our safe procedure.

2

X-ray

Performs basic examination of all materials to check the occlusal state and bones quickly and accurately.

3

Preoperative inspection

Conducts a comprehensive health checkup to check the health status of the client before surgery.

02 Four-step Precision Diagnosis System

1

3D CT scan

Accurate data collection of the fine nerve distribution, bone thickness, and blood vessel location for precise treatment.

2

3D VTO

A digital simulation system for predicting post-operative state before the actual surgery.

3

Face-bow transfer and model mounting

A precision diagnostic system that measures the occlusal state, strength, and structure of the jaw with accurate measurement of the length and angle from the eye to the upper jaw.

4

Mock surgery using the RP (Rapid Prototype) model

The surgery can reconstruct the skeleton of the patient and evaluate the relationship between skeletal problems and maxillomandibular bones in three dimensions.

Treatment for Different Types of
Protruding Chin

01 Chin tip hypertrophy

The occlusion of teeth is normal when the mouth is closed with the upper and lower teeth closed by occluding each other. If the tip of the lower jaw is developed forward or downward and appears like the protruding chin, the solution is relatively simple by correction through genioplasty.

Chin tip surgery

The tip of the chin is cut and then moved forward for fixation.

1

T-osteotomy is performed on the chin tip while avoiding nerve damage.

2

The procedure removes bone fragments and brings together the tips of the chin bone.

3

Bone fragments are inserted into the front chin, and uneven chin lines are smoothed out on both sides.

T-osteotomy

The lower jaw is cut in a T-shape while avoiding nerve damage, and the middle bones are removed, connected, and trimmed.

1

2

The procedure removes bone fragments and brings together the tips of the chin bone.

3

The jaw sections protruding from both sides are surgically removed.

02 Mandibular prognathism

Not only does the lower jaw come forward at the tip of the jaw, but the entire jawbone that forms the jaw is located in the front. In normal cases of occlusion, the upper front tooth should protrude 1-2 mm forward from the lower front tooth. In this case, the lower front tooth is located in front of the upper front tooth, thus correction is necessary.

Lower-jaw surgery

The protruding chin is removed by trimming the lower jaw. Pull forward as much as the bone is removed, adjust occlusion and fix.

Before

After

  • Cut and remove the lower jaw bone.
  • Remove the bone fragments, Pull forward as much as the bone has been removed and adjust occlusion.
  • Fix tightly and finish.

Two-jaw surgery

Before

After

Literally speaking, it means an operation on both the upper and lower jaws.

SSRO (Sagittal Split Ramus Osteotomy)

Before

After

SSRO is a method to widen the cut section while bone resectioning. The jawbone is cut to fit the teeth occlusion, and the separated jaws are fixed by fastening the position of the jaws. SSRO fixes the bones firmly with pins, and the site affixes fast and tight because the cutting section is wide, showing satisfactory recovery progress. If you feel discomfort from the pins, they can be removed six months after the surgery.

IVRO (Intraoral Vertical Ramus Osteotomy)

Before

After

IVRO is a surgical procedure that cuts the end of jaw vertically. After removing the incised bones, the remaining cut sections are put together. The adhesive side should fit exactly with pinpoint accuracy, and the jaw will go inward as much as the removed bone section. IVRO does not need fastening as the treatment utilizes the natural resilience of the human body. When the bone is cut, a material called "bone marrow", which serves to attach the bone to the cut section is produced and the bone is firmly stuck. However, bone glands are produced and the teeth are secured in a fixed position without movement until the bone is knitted together.
